![]() The first few generations of the Kindle had physical page turn buttons, but most of these are so old, they are no longer in active use. Page-Press Haptic FeedbackĪmazon has never really embraced physical page turn buttons on modern Kindle e-readers. The 10th Generation Paperwhite and older models, do not have a color temperature system, ditto with the base model Kindle, but they do have a front-light. However, mixing and matching the front-light and warm lighting only applies to specific Kindle models, such as the 1 1th generation Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, along with the Kindle Oasis. I would recommend turning the warm lighting on between 10% to 40% to get the best reading experience. I actually found mixing the front-light and color temperature system looks better, since there is less contrast. Instead of the text bring white, it also becomes a lighter brown, similar to old parchment. Instead of the background being black, it becomes brown. If you engage the color temperature system, or warm light, in conjunction with the front-light, the reading experience is vastly different. I recommend turning on the front-light from 5% to 25% to get that sweet spot. The black background is more muted and the white text is really bright, making it harder to read. When you turn on the front-lit display when Dark Mode is on, it is less of a great experience, if you have the light cranked to the max. What I like about the Dark Mode is the black background blends in with the black bezels. The text is enabled on the home screen, menus, sub-menus, the entire UI and the reading experience. When you turn Dark Mode on, it engages it on a system level. Dark Mode is one of the settings next to Airplane Mode and Sync. Modern Kindles have it in the dropdown menu, by clicking on the inverted arrow at the top of screen, above the search bar. The latest generation Paperwhite has a front-lit display and color temperature system, which allows users to augment Dark Mode further.Īmazon used to make Dark Mode buried in the settings menu and it was hard to find. ![]() This makes reading on the Kindle easier at night, so you won’t disturb others. This is a system that inverts the text and background, so the background would be black and text is white. The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Oasis has a feature called Dark Mode. #CALIBRE EBOOK IMAGES FOR ANDROID#Send to Kindle for Chrome, PC, MAC and Kindle apps for Android and iOS also do not work with X-Ray. This includes books you copy over with a file manager or 3rd party apps such as Calibre. There are a few caveats with X-Ray, they do not work with sideloaded books. On the detail page for a book, scroll down to the Product Details section. Normally X-Ray is enabled on all books that Amazon sells in their digital bookstore and you can check ahead of time on the Amazon site when you’re browsing books for those that support X-Ray. General reference information is preloaded into a small file on the Kindle device or app, so that when the feature is used, there is no need to access the Internet to access such content as dictionary, encyclopedic, or metadata entries. X-Ray is a reference tool, that was first introduced in September 2011, and was incorporated in the Amazon Kindle Touch and later models, Kindle Fire tablets, Kindle apps for mobile platforms, Fire Phones, and Fire TVs. ![]() This not only works with characters, but also places and images. X-Ray breaks down all of the major and minor characters, how many times they have been referenced and you can jump immediately to the page of the book. One of the things that most readers find compelling, are all of the characters in the book. If you are reading autobiographies with lots of images, there is also an X-Ray function to look at all of the images in the book. It gives you a rundown of the people, places and things in a digital book that is purchased from Amazon. The Amazon Kindle and Fire tablets have a feature called X-Ray. Here are the 10 best things your Kindle e-reader can do. Many of the things on our list might surprise longtime Kindle users. Amazon has really pioneered innovative concepts such as X-Ray and WhisperSync for Voice, in addition to integration of the social media and book discovery site, Goodreads. The Amazon Kindle e-reaader has a number of features and enhancements that are entirely unique to the Kindle e-reader. ![]()
